Keswick and the Lake District

The Lake District is a national park, famous for wonderful walking on its mountains and fells, and spectacular views across its lakes. In the Northern Lakes, Keswick - an acknowledged centre for walking, cycling and climbing in the Lakes - is situated on the shore of Lake Derwentwater, surrounded by mountains on all sides.

One of the most colourful towns in the Lake District, Keswick has a real character and life of its own. The town is centred around the Moot Hall, which hosts the local market on Saturdays, and has a wide variety of shops, restaurants and pubs, together with a cinema and lakeside theatre, providing ample activities for the 'occasional' wet day. While busy in the main holiday seasons, Keswick has a special charm out of season, for those who appreciate peacefulness and a relaxed and relaxing style of life.

Despite its peaceful location, High Skydes is only a three minute walk from Keswick's town centre. It is yards from a footbridge over the river into Fitz Park, with its tennis courts, children's playground and ornamental gardens, and the start of a variety of gentle or challenging walks.

With easy access and excellent public transport connections, Keswick also makes an ideal base to explore other areas of the Lake District, and Scotland.
